St Lucia Turtle Hatchling Tours depart daily at 14h00 from St Lucia South Africa. We collect and drop you off where you are staying in the St Lucia or Hluhluwe area . From St Lucia Estuary, we drive in comfortable vehicles to the Maputaland Marine Sanctuary where there is the highest concentration of Loggerhead and Leatherback turtle nests anywhere along the entire South African and African coastline, therefore the best chance of finding baby turtles.

The St Lucia Turtle Hatchling Tour goes through and area called Maputaland, to an inaccessible part of untouched turtle nesting beach near Kosi Bay, called Bhanga Nek. St Lucia Turtle Hatchling Tours to Bhanga Nek in the Turtle Sanctuary are the best option for turtle tours because there is nowhere else in Africa with such a high concentration of turtle nests, and sightings rates are 95%+. Along the way we stop in eManguze for dinner.

The last part of the drive is along a four wheel drive track in the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, formerly known as the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park. The sandy tracks have kept the Maputaland coast inaccessible and unspoiled by hoards of tourists. We arrive at the Bhanga Nek beach just before dark, and begin to walk northward once it is dark. Turtles here come ashore after dark and nesting continues until the early hours of the morning. St Lucia Turtle Tours to Kosi Bay and Bhanga Nek are not limited by tidal conditions because we do not drive on the beach.

The St Lucia Turtle Hatchling Tours Guides go ahead of the group searching for baby turtles emerging from the nests and moving down the beach to the water. You will be able to view and photograph the baby turtles. The St Lucia Turtle Tours guides will tell you when and how to photograph the baby turtles without causing any disturbance. No touching of the baby turtles is allowed!

Overnight St Lucia Turtle Tours

You also have the option to do an overnight turtle tour, spending the night in a rustic camp close to the turtle nesting beaches at Kosi Bay and Bhanga Nek. On overnight St Lucia Turtle Tours we return to the forest camp after the turtle walk and spend the remainder of the evening sitting around the campfire and enjoying the starry African Skies and all the nocturnal sounds. The following morning we spend some time on the beach at Bhanga Nek, swimming snorkeling and relaxing on the beach before we return to St Lucia at about 13h00.
What to bring along with you on St Lucia Turtle Nesting Tours:

Closed shoes for walking, bathing suit, camera, torch, sunscreen, hat, change of clothes or raincoat, and a spirit of adventure.
